We won’t take all the credit for Oakley’s 2.1 billion dollar sale to Luxottica. But our 2006 re-branding marketing ideas and creative proposals were incorporated into Oakley’s big stock analysts meeting of all the mega trading companies – which resulted in a recommendation to Luxottica, the largest optics company in the world, to buy Oakley.
Now, you have to be an ‘insider’ to understand Oakley cult-culture and with 20 years of experience on Oakley between us - we were honorary members of their pirate ship. So they turned to us when they needed help re-thinking the branding for their entire 1 billion dollar company.
The conundrum was - how does a group of innovative optic rebels deal with becoming a mainstream corporate giant - how do you keep the brand an icon?
Obviously, our work helped Oakley convince Luxottica that there was treasure in their pirate chest. Oh, and about all the surreal alien-like H. R. Giger inspired imagery in the presentation, well that’s Oakley. It’s a brand in a hyper design-techno-otherworldly universe.
